If you’re looking for a city break with tropical weather and nice beaches, Miami is always a good shot! But there’s a lot more to discover in Miami Beach than the famous Ocean drive. Keep reading to see why Miami Beach is a place to visit at least once!
I went to Miami Beach in October 2016 quite spontaneously as I still had a few holidays left from work and me and a friend found ridiculously cheap flights that we instantly booked!
So here’s my guide on what to do in this quirky little beach town!
What to Do
1. Discover the Beaches!
Who would have guessed that Miami Beach is home to amazing beaches? ;-) The whole east side of Miami Beach is basically one long, wide beach.
There’s a good kitesurfing spot in the north and I’d highly recommend taking some time to walk from Mid-Beach to South Beach along the water!
2. Enjoy the View from South Pointe Pier
The pier is located in the very south of Miami Beach and offers spectacular views of the beach and is very poular for watching the sunset!
It also a great viewpoint to have a sneaky look at the neighbouring private Fisher island villas!
Don’t miss out on a walk through the park close to the pier. It’s a lovely spot of quietness in this busy city!
3. Stroll along Ocean Drive
That’s obviously a must-do for every tourist that comes to Miami Beach. I actually thought that the street would be much longer but it’s actually quite short!
It’s still fun to walk through and see the fancy cars slowly cruising through the street and it’s beautiful Art Deco buildings which brings me to my next tip!
4. Wander through the Art Deco District
Colourful Art Deco buildings are prominent all over the South Beach and there are several tours you can take or you can just get a map and discover it yourself!
5. Go Shopping on Lincoln Road
Shopping lovers will definitely find themselves on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach at one point. It’s huge and has a huge variety of well-known shops. It’s car-free which makes the experience so much better!
If you’re not into shopping, I’d still recommend going there and find a spot in one of the numerous coffee shops and people watch! It’s one of my favourite things to do on holiday and it’s certainly very interesting with all the quirky Miami Beach characters!
Eat & Drink
I actually stayed at this hostel and didn’t know how popular their bar is! It’s a hangout spot for locals and backpackers with a nice chilled vibe! Cocktails are more on the expensive end of the scale but they taste amazing!
Tropical Beach Café
Located in Mid Beach, this tiny café serves fab latin food! It’s also one of the cheapest places I’ve found in the whole of Miami Beach. Portion sizes are huge and will easily feed two people!
Doraku Izakaya and Sushi
If you’re looking for a nice dinner spot, I’d go for this place! It’s located on Lincoln Road and has outside seating which is great for people watching!
After looking through the Hostelworld website for ages, we finally settled on the Freehand Miami Hostel. To be fair, the location isn’t great and it takes at least 20 minutes to walk to South Beach, but it was in a quiet location and the beds were super comfy!
Located in South Beach, this hostel is a bit more central and looks very stylish!
Eurowings has great deals for direct flights to Miami Beach from Germany. Our flights were a real steal at 380 Euro return! Just make sure you pack your own food, as the cheapest rate they offer (called basic) doesn’t include any food!
